No matter what your politics its undeniable that Obama’s win at last night’s caucus and victory speech was an historic moment.
The Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson calls it “a goosebumps moment.”
The New York Times’ David Brooks writes in part “Iowa won’t settle the race, but the rest of the primary season is going to be colored by the glow of this result. Whatever their political affiliations, Americans are going to feel good about the Obama victory, which is a story of youth, possibility and unity through diversity — the primordial themes of the American experience. “
I for one felt the goosebumps and was moved by the words. Words of hope, words of lucidity (what a change from our current leader) and words that can unite. Decades of political experience aside I’m hopeful that we can elect someone fresh, someone not tainted by the political machinations of an good ‘ole boy network.
This may be an idealistic hope but I’d much rather have that kind of hope than the despair and apathy of the last eight years.
Next up New Hampshire.
